This summer the Direct Action Monterey Network and the Monterey Community Education Project are putting together the next series of the Thinking Critically about Society (TCAS) seminars.

In the past, the TCAS seminars have included led discussion groups around readings addressing Polyamory, Anarchism, Prisons & Incarceration, Alternative Sexualities, Understanding Fascism, and Revolutionizing Education (just to name a few). This summer we’re moving into our second year and sixth series of TCAS and it’s a great hit!
For four weeks in July, local activists and community educators will come together to bring philosophy and political & social theory to the downtown Monterey community, addressing some pressing issues that face our town and that affect the people who live here. The seminars are:
- Session 1: What is Gender? July 9th, 6:30pm
- Session 2: Reading Marx. July 16th, 6:30pm
- Session 3: Homelessness/Houselessness. July 23rd, 6:30pm
- Session 4: Psychedelics and Society, July 30th, 6:30pm

Each seminar has some advanced reading that we suggest that people do, and all the readings are available for free in .pdf or .doc form on our websites at the links above. Reading the articles and blogs that we put together helps facilitate conversation, but it’s not definitely NOT a requirement for attendance. Also, many of the readings are available for purchase in the shop or to check out at the local library.
