Reading Groups at the Bookstore

Old Capitol Books has events almost every weekend. But we are most proud of our reading groups.

We have three regular reading groups:

First Fridays, 7pm: 831 Anarchists
The first Friday of each month, we meet to discuss a text, event, or idea. The event starts at 7pm and usually runs for 90 minutes. No prior reading or knowledge is required. This event is free and open to everyone.

Last Fridays, 7pm: Philosophy Reading Group
Perhaps our longest running event, and co-facilitated with Philosopher-in-Residence Robert Kuhry, the philosophy reading group meets the last Friday of each month at 7pm. The topics usually focus on a single essay or book. No prior reading or knowledge is required to participate. All levels are welcome. Free and open to everyone.

Last Sundays, 10am: Marx’s Capital Reading Group
This reading group is different from the others in that it is doing a deep dive into a single text, Marx’s Capital, over the course of a year. It meets the last Sunday of each month at 10am. The first two hours will be watching David Harvey’s lecture on the current chapter and then we will go to a cafe to discuss major themes and ideas. Prior reading is not required but strongly recommended to get the most out of this project.
