24 May, 2014 1pm-3pm: come to Old Capitol Books to meet local author, L.C. Wright talk about his book, Castle Grey.

9 June, 2014: 5pm – An Evening of Visions and Dreams with Moira Crone and Rodger Kamenetz. Two award winning writers who use dreams in their poetry and prose, will talk about fundamentals of our dreams and their relationship to creativity and well being.

29 June, 2014 – 3pm: Come by the bookshop at 3pm to meet Bunny Stevens and buy copies of her new book, Unholy Union, a memoir of clergy sexual abuse in the Salvation Army.

14 May, 6:30pm: Join with radicals, thinkers, activists, poets, and intellectuals on the Monterey Peninsula to read and discuss some of the greatest philosophers of our time.  We are particularly interested in 20th and 21st century philosophy, and our first readings will come from the work of Italian theorist Silvia Federici.

April 18th, 2014: 7pm – Old Capitol Books invites you to NEPOTISMII! A Night of Poetry. On April 18th, we’ll close up the shop, turn down the lights and bring together some of Monterey’s “best” local poets. Their work is amazing. They are my friends. I am not biased at all. Really.

Wednesday August 6th, 2014 7pm: Love SciFi with a radical bent? So do we! Come join us as we sit down and discuss a work of literature during our monthly SciFi reading group.  For our first meeting we’ll be reading Robert Heinlein’s Stranger in a Strange Land.

April 16th, 2014, 6:30pm-8pm: Discuss classic texts on alternative models of education and assess their relevance for creating liberatory forms of education in the 21st century. Part of the Thinking Critically about Society Seminar Series.

Wednesday April 9th, 6:30pm – Come join the second seminar in the series Thinking Critically about Society, “Social Perceptions of Disability.”

Wednesday April 2th, 6:30-8pm: Old Capitol Books, together with the Direct Action Monterey Network & the Monterey Community Education Project are reviving the Thinking Critically About Society Seminar Series, with a revival of some popular seminars from the past and a few new ones.
