Friday 11 November 2016, 7pm: Instead of our normal reading group, this month the Theory and Philosophy Reading Group will be showing a Sundance Official Selection film Concerning Violence (2014).
We will also be talking about anti-racist and anti-colonial struggles! As part of this, we’re going to be taking donations at the door to send off to Standing Rock! $5 suggested donation. NOTAFLOF
Last year, as part of the series on African philosophy, the Theory and Philosophy Reading Group read the first chapter of Frantz Fanon’s The Wretched of the Earth, and inspired by this reading we are revisiting it through the medium of film.
The director Göran Olsson, also the creator of the award-winning film Black Power Mixtape, 1967-1975, has also been praised for this Fanon adaptation. Concerning Violence has been nominated for the Sundance Film Festival World Grand Jury Prize and the Munich International Documentary Festival Viktor Award, among many others.
