Wuwu, Grand Larson, and the Discards will appear at Old Capitol Books at the end of the June!
Saturday 29 June
Doors at 7pm
Although rooted in the tradition of good old-fashioned rock and roll, Santa Cruz based trio Grand Larson aren’t afraid to beg, borrow and steal from country, funk, hip hop and everything in between. Rowan Grave’s crisp drums and Duncan Shipton’s funky walking bass lines provide a sparse but solid groove for the plaintive twang and rolling fingerstyle guitar of lead singer and songwriter Tyler Larson. Steeped in just enough melodic pop sensibility, punctuated by experimental guitar solos and soaring into melancholic harmonies that would do Crosby and Nash proud , their sometimes whimsical, sometimes straightforward sound soothes the soul and sets the toes tapping.
WuWu is a harmonic duo based out of Monterey, California. Unafraid to explore the layers of the human condition through poetic and sometimes dark lyricism, Tommy and Kristen land somewhere between Coco Rosie and Shakey Graves. An eclectic mix of freak folk and dreamy pop. these two are unafraid to tackle taboo topics, yet their uplifting sound will grab you.
