Ellen Hart, a retired language arts and drama middle school teacher, continues to be involved in the schools and facilitates a creative writing workshop at Mental Health Community Action Network. She has two published books of poetry, the latest being Behind the Fog. Ellen has also been published in Porter Gulch Review, Monterey Poets Anthology, Monterey Bay Poetry Review and Tree Magic, a CD anthology. She was a featured reader at Poet Speak, Poets’ Eyes Artists’ Tongues and Women and Food. In addition, she was interviewed on the KUSP Poetry Show and Writers’ Block on KRML.

Illia Thompson, writing instructor for the MPC Older adult Program for fifteen years, now independently holds four weekly classes teaching Memoirs Writing, Her education at Antioch College in Ohio prepared her to go beyond the usual as she approaches education. Her poetry appears in her books, Heartframes, Along the Memoir Way, and Gracious Seasons. Illia’s received honorable mention from the Writer’s Digest competition, finds her poems in The Homestead Review, Dancing on the Brink of the World: Point Lobos Poems, and in local print. Illia enjoyed participation in group readings targeting specific topics, including Women and Food and Words and Color. Her Journaling Workshops are enhanced by her experience at Rancho La Puerta, a Mexican spa that stresses fitness of mind and body.
