This work is based on the life and writing of Jennie V. Cannon, one of California’s more important female artists and on contemporary sources from the first half of the 20th century.
Volume One contains the biographies of 242 artists from both colonies, including such liminaries as E. Charlton Fortune, Armin Hansen, August Gay, John O’Shea, Francis McComas, William Silva, Xavier Martinez, Will Sparks, Jo Mora, Ferdinand Burgdorff, DeNeale Morgan, and many others.
