Pretty New Sign for Old Capitol Books

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIf you’ve driven past the Monterey transit center and our lovely book shop in the past week, you might have caught a glimpse of our pretty new sign.  Now our purpose has been proclaimed outwards onto the streets loud and clear: “There’s a book store here!”

RECENT ARRIVAL – Books purchased from estate of retired U.S. Ambassador

Old Capitol Books is honored to have recently purchased exceptional books from the personal library of a retired U.S. Ambassador John D. Jernegan (1911-1981) who retired to Carmel Valley in the late 1960’s with his wife Mary.  Books on the subjects of diplomacy, cooking, Middle East history, and unusual Italian Touring Club books from the 1950’s, among others.  During his career he was stationed in Mexico, San Diego, Washington D.C., Tunis, Atlanta, New York, London, Rome, Baghdad, Tangier, and other locations I have yet to discover.
